On March 11, 2011 a major earthquake and fifteen foot tsunami destroyed the East coast of Japan, stimulating a meltdown at the Japanese nuclear reactor Fukushima I. The earthquake, Tohuku, lasted around three minutes and took many lives. The focus now, however, centers on the nuclear power plant, whose explosion marks the second worst in nuclear power's history. Radioactive material was released into the atmosphere in vast quantities and hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated. This video explains exactly what happened during the meltdown.
